"Mr. Puroresu" Genichiro Tenryu - Early 80's

AJPW Super Power Series 1989 Day 18, June 5th - Vs. Jumbo Tsuruta:
"Incredible match, I must say. Jumbo vs Tenryu was always going to be good but this was above that, this was a special match. The crowd was red hot for this. Great psychology with Jumbo dominating the younger and smaller Tenryu, targeting the neck and legs with cobra clutches and various submissions, allowing the crowd to get behind Tenryu. Tenryu sold all the offence very well and gave a tremendous performance. The finishing stretch was great and really well done with the well timed false finish with the folding bomb only getting a two count first. Hot crowd, very stiff, great storytelling, pretty good selling from Tenryu. This match was a turning point of history in many ways but not way that you would think as Tenryu left All Japan a few months after this but it still holds up today. *****."

AJPW New Year Wars Super Battle 1986 Day 25, January 28th -  W/ Jumbo Tsuruta Vs. Ishin Gundan (Riki Choshu & Yoshiaki Yatsu):
"Fucking awesome match. Choshu has an injured rios going into this so Jumbo and Tenryu kick the shit out of the it and makes the injury so much worse. Yatsu is just slapping the hell out of Jumbo. They are hitting each other with big bombs, mixed with some good tag wrestling. One point Tenryu hitting the ropes so fast, he falls out of the ring when he hits the lariat. The crowd are going mental for most of this. Jumbo and Tenryu were great subtle heels in this match and Choshu and Yatsu great faces. Everyone was amazing ****¾”

JPW/JPW Summer Dream Festival 1985 Day 1, August 2nd - W/ Jumbo Tsuruta Vs. Ishin Gundan (Riki Choshu & Killer Khan):
"This was a very entertaining match. Riki Choshu and his invading group,  Ishin Gundan against the babyface heros. Tenryu and Jumbo were great in his match, had some great stuff looking offence and some good tag wrestling, tagging quick and out sending the crowd crazy. Khan had an unconventional style but it was entertaining and worked in this match. Choshu is Choshu and was great as usual. Awesome tag match. ****” .

AJPW New Year Giant Series 1982 Day 29, April 2nd - Vs. Mil Mascaras:
"Mil F’N Mascara vs Genichiro Tenryu. Dream match personified. There was some lovely mat work from both men, including Tenryu which is not normally his thing but I thought he was good here. They used that work well to build up to the bits where they just laid into each other, trying to put each other way. The finish was fine, not great. This could’ve gone longer but good match what it was. ***¾“

AJPW Giant Series 1983 Day 2, October 23rd - Vs. Ted DiBiase:
"This was for DiBiase’s NWA United National Title, a title that he won that same month so I never expected him to lose the belt so soon after winning it (perhaps that’s just me modern day head talking) but this was a fairly enjoyable and thrilling match nonetheless. Tenryu controlling the early portions of the match, wearing down Dibiase and working on his right arm using a tightly looking  hammerlock. Before Dibias made his comeback and took control for most of the match (doing some great selling along the way) and they start hitting each other with big moves before the finish which was a bit flat but expected. ***½”

AJPW Excite Series 1984 Day 12, February 23rd -  Vs. Ricky Steamboat:
"If I’m honest, this was very disappointing. I don’t know what it is but I can’t get into Steamboat matches in Japan. Perhaps it’s his flashy style but it doesn’t fit and it didn’t mesh well with Tenryu at all. Wasn’t very engaging to watch and didn’t get any good until the end unfortunately. Disappointing. **”
