Event Info

A very successful event. This was a big factor in wrestling events being more frequently broadcasted on closed circuit television. Bugsy McGraw & Rufus R. Jones vs. The Assassins (Assassin #1 & Assassin #2) (w/Paul Jones)

A bad start to one of the first massive supershows. Loads of punch/kicks and very sloppy. Rufus was very over and the crowd went nuts for him whenever he was on offence but he was garbage. He had an awful wind up punch that he missed by a mile. Everyone was bad though. Bugsy McGraw did a few punches and an atomic drop.  The Assassins did nothing but take offence and won at the end. Bad ending, bad match. ½*

Johnny Weaver & Scott McGhee vs. Kevin Sullivan & Mark Lewin (w/Gary Hart)

Another predictably bad match. There was a long nerve hold that bridged the beginning of the match and the end of the match. Thankfully it was quick and it had a real good angle after the match. Sullivan, Lewin and Gary Hart attacked McGhee and severely cut him open. Blood was pouring over his body in seconds; doesn’t save the match though. ¾*

Abdullah The Butcher vs. Carlos Colon

Brutal match. There was clearly a heated rivalry already between the two which is very famous. Brawling, attacking each other with spikes Gnarly stuff. The crowd didn’t initially care for Carlos Colon, though they hated Abdullah, but they started getting into him during the match which again, was short. *½

Bob Orton Jr. & Dick Slater vs. Mark Youngblood & Wahoo McDaniel

This was a much better match than the others so far which isn’t saying a lot. Slater and Bob Orton Jr. did a good job in attacking the faces, mostly Mark Youngblood and creating loads of heat for themselves. I wouldn’t say it was a good match but a simple one done well. **½

NWA Television Title Vs. Mask Match - The Great Kabuki (w/Gary Hart) (c) vs. Charlie Brown

Real forgettable match. Pointless. **

Dog Collar Match - Greg Valentine vs. Roddy Piper

A real intense and brutal brawl from the start. Valentine attacking the already injured ear very viciously, trying to affect Piper’s balance. Even causing him to bleed. Piper struggling to stand up, throwing wild punches, scratching and clawing to stay alive. Great commentary as well. ****¼

NWA World Tag Team Title Match (Special Referee: Angelo Mosca) - The Brisco Brothers (Jack Brisco & Jerry Brisco) (c) vs. Jay Youngblood & Ricky Steamboat

This was an awesome tag match. The briscoes proving to be superior, dominating Steamboat and Youngblood with quick tags and some lovely suplexes. Youngblood and Steamboat was great in the FIP role, Steamboat in particular. ***¾

NWA World Heavyweight Title Steel Cage Match (Special Referee: Gene Kiniski) - Harley Race (c) vs. Ric Flair

Decent main event. The ending was very anti-climatic and it really dragged in the middle parts of the match. ***
