NJPW Super Heavy Crash 1991

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title Match: Norio Honaga (c) vs. Jushin Thunder Liger - NJPW Super Heavy Crash 1991 - Day 6 - The Legend Of Dragon Tatsumi Fujinami 20th Anniversary 31/05/1991
A rematch to their Top of The Super Juniors match where Honaga overcame the might of Liger and won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title. Liger, once Honaga ripped his mask, went berserk. Showing tons more violence and aggression. Honaga bleed heavily and sold really well. Fun match. ***1/2

IWGP Tag Team Title Match: The Steiner Brothers (Rick Steiner & Scott Steiner) (c) vs. Hiroshi Hase & Kensuke Sasaki - NJPW Super Heavy Crash 1991 - Day 6 - The Legend Of Dragon Tatsumi Fujinami 20th Anniversary 31/05/1991
There was around 6 minutes missing roughly but what was here was very good. Steiners working over Hase/Sasaki really well. Hase and Sasaki being great on the defensive and taking it to the Steiners. ***1/2

IWGP Heavyweight Title Match:Tatsumi Fujinami (c) vs. Masahiro Chono - NJPW Super Heavy Crash 1991 - Day 6 - The Legend Of Dragon Tatsumi Fujinami 20th Anniversary 31/05/1991
There was a real intensity to this match - from Chono’s kicks to Fujinami’s rough mat work. Loved how both guys would throw hard slaps, whether it was Fujinami at the start of the match or Chono while on top of Fujinami, which lead to a lovely slap exchange on the ground. Fujinami in particular was awesome in this. Loved his selling , the way he sold execution was really effective. Chono as well. Fujinami looked really back to his best offence wise with him hitting a brutal tope and a pinpoint dropkick right on Chono’s jaw. The finish was a great battle of the Dragon Sleeper vs the STF with each time both wrestlers wriggling out of their respective holds. Great match. ****1/4

G1 Climax 1991 Block B Match: Riki Choshu vs. Shinya Hashimoto - NJPW Violent Storm in Kokugikan -Day 2 10/08/1991
Hashimoto destroys Choshu in this. Choshu who is 0-2 before this match isn’t going to allow himself to lose again so easily. He absorbs a hell of an ass kicking in the form of brutal Hashimoto kicks. Choshu got some offence in the beginning, trying to end it early but it was the way he started that formed his end. Hell of a match. ****1/4

G1 Climax 1991 Block A Match: Big Van Vader vs. Keiji Muto - NJPW Violent Storm in Kokugikan -Day 2 10/08/1991
Big vs Small. Monster Heel vs Beloved babyface. Classic match structure but it’s certainly one that defines it. Muto can get a ton of stick for having a ton of downtime but there was little here. Loved the frantic pace the match went on. The action was stiff with Vader laying in nasty shots and Muto retaliating with a few of his own. Vader hitting a german after catching the Handspring elbow was an awesome spot. The nearfalls were amazing. The crowd heat added to it as well. ****1/2

G1 Climax 1991 Final Match: Keiji Muto vs. Masahiro Chono - NJPW Violent Storm in Kokugikan - Day 3 11/08/1991
Started off a bit slow, with Muto and Chono trying to feel each other out. Grabbing each others limbs, Muto with Chono’s legs and Chono with Muto’s legs in an attempt to get the upper hand. Eventually Muto got the better of the two and started to work on the neck as well as the legs of Chono locking in the Muto lock. Then they picked up the pace, getting more intense with every big move the hit. Loads of counters including Chono rolling out the way of Muto’s moonsault and Muto countinly blocking Chono’s powerbomb. The crowd throughout is so hot for the action. They, along with the wrestling, kept on building and building. The finish kept with the story of the match with Chono ketting the knees up for the moonsault and finally hits the powerbomb for the win. The crowd goes berserk and throws their pillows into the ring for a great visual. Well worth the legendary status it has. Excellent from both men. ****3/4
