2000 Osaka Pro & Sakuda/Kobayashi/Ishikawa

Three Way 567 Fluorescent Light Tubes Deathmatch: Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Toshiyuki Sakuda vs. Yuki Ishikawa
This was pretty insane. Kobayashi looks like a scary beast with hair. Some of his offence was a little light (not a pun), he in general isn’t great at moving anymore, but when he was swatting away with his open fists, that was great. Reminded me a bit of Ryota Hama, in a good way. Sakuda and Ishikawa are both on the small side so them teaming together was a great strategy to be implemented. They attack Kobayashi with light tubes before he even gets in the ring. But they weren’t afraid of going against each other when Kobayashi wasn’t a factor. Ishikawa had some cool aerial moves. And he wasn’t afraid of landing in the glass either so he went all out on those.  Nor did Sakuda. Their exchange on the scaffold looked amazing visually. I kinda wish someone would dive off the top of it but that didn’t really happen, sadly. In addition to the classic triple threat story trope, there was some gore in this as well. Sakuda sticking a metal skewer in Ishikawa’s mouth and then the turnbuckle was sadistically genius and allowed Sakuda to hit Kobayashi with a 450 splash and get the win. Sakuda drinking the blood that was pissing out of his arm was fucking gross as well. What a mad lad. Great match. ****

Osaka Pro Legend Story 04/01/2000

Different Style Fight: Naohiro Hoshikawa vs Takehiro Murahama
Murahama’s debut against Hoshikawa. This match is worked in different style rules, so rounds, KOs can end the match, etc. Murahama had a shoot boxing and MMA background pre-wrestling (and he’d turn pro later in his career) so this was a great way to have his debut match. And he looked super impressive with his wicked fast strikes that connected more often than not. He had this cool way of overwhelming Hoshikawa who could only wait it out and try to counter with a big suplex. There was an awesome exchange where Murahama nailed a brutal straight right head which was set with a big suplex from Hoshikawa and Murahama then hit a high head kick that drew a big KO tease. Super good match. Heck of a debut. ***1/2

OPW Title Match (Vacant): Super Delfin vs Dick Togo
This is to crown the first ever Osaka Pro champion. And I think there is no better match than the company owner, ace and hero against the big heel on the scene, Dick Togo. This plays out like a big epic finale at the end of a film. Super Delfin has tons of odds stacked against him in this tough situation as Dick Togo brings out all the stops using his ‘LOV’ stable to his advantage whenever he could as well using weapons to attack Delfin’s knee and back. Togo’s work on the leg is super good. Whenever Delfin looked to get some offence, he kicked at the knee joints and took Delfin right back to the mat, locking on some snug knee bars. Delfin looks great when he gets on offence though. His graceful dives to the floor look fantastic. You could feel the crowd really come alive for Delfin when he was in control. His selling as well was great. Delfin’s form was great but he was prone to mistakes at times, being too slow at certain set-ups allowing Togo to take advantage. There was a great transition where Delfin looks to hit and move but poses before he can do it, so Togo takes advantage, low blows him and hits a running lariat. All setting up the best nearfall of the match where Delfin just kicks out at 2 from the Pedigree and Senton combo from Togo. The finishing stretch has a ton of nearfalls but it’s done fairly well with them being spaced out and done in a way where Togo finally subcomming to Deflin’s barrage of offence is inevitable. ***3/4
