Three Faces Of Christian (RVD, Jericho, Del Rio)

Intercontinental Title Ladder Match: Christian (c) vs. Rob Van Dam - WWE Raw 29/09/2003
Well this was unexpected. Rob Van Dam can be a fickle wrestler. He desperately needs someone to reign in all his cool moves and make him work hard for those high spots otherwise his matches turn into a blithering mess. Christian, on this day, happens to be perfect for that. The whole match is Chrisitian trying to avoid RVD’s biggest hits with his counter wrestling style while RVD throws caution to the wind. The bumping in the match is so great as well. Even with the match being brisky, the damage is so clear. Christian pin balls himself from RVD’s kicks and RVD hits  rolling thunder to the outside onto Christian while he’s holding the ladder. It’s pretty nasty. The match builds to the climax really well with Christian trying to fend on RVD on the ladder only to get drop-kicked off it, landing face first on the fallen ladder below. Then the set up for the final frog splash was great. Both falling off the ladder but RVD hanging onto another ladder and then climbing to the top. The pop for it was tremendous. ****1/4

Christian vs Chris Jericho - WWE WrestleMania XX - "Where it all Begins... Again" 14/03/2004
Excellent match. Very competitive from the start but both are clearly going about it in different ways. Chris Jericho was very sportsmanlike and generally kept it clean whereas Christian is far more aggressive and breaks a few rules along the way. Christian throughout the match constantly works on Jericho's neck in a great way. Hitting neck breakers, DDT's, neck cranks. Basic stuff, but it works so well and Jericho's offence plays into it perfectly as it's a very defensive type of offence. Everything is done out of desperation by Jericho. The ending was good, it made sense and progressed the storyline very, very well. ****1/4

World Heavyweight Title Match: Christian vs Alberto Del Rio (c) - WWE SummerSlam 2013 18/08/2013
A big underrated gem. Del Rio can produce some good matches when he’s on. The Dolph Ziggler match is a good example as is this. Del Rio was aggressive early on, wrenching the headlock on tightly before transitioning to working the arm of Christian. Del Rio utilizes his stops wonderfully and Christian does a great job at positioning himself to make it all work fluidly. His selling is good as well. He knows just how to milk it for sympathy. The back and forth exchanges were really exciting and perfect for the mid-card setting. ***3/4
