Dragon Gate Gate of Destiny 2020 - 03/11/2020

YAMATO vs. KAI
A simple, short match that was basically a handicap match. YAMATO had to fight against KAI and BxB Hulk on the outside so there wasn’t much room for much fancy wrestling. It was a real fight for survival before the referee called for the DQ. Good match to set up Kobe World. **3/4

Open the Brave Gate Championship Match: Kaito Ishida (c) vs. Keisuke Okuda
A super good match to match their rivalry over the year. The match was instantly all action from the bell, Ishida and Okuda were throwing elbows with no regard straight away and they kept up that tempo until the finish. Other than a moment of being overzealous, I see nothing wrong with this. Ishida keeps getting better and smarter with his use of kicks, being able to utilize them in brilliant ways to attack Okuda’s leg and set up the ankle lock. Okuda looks better every time I see him. Perhaps not the blow away great match that everyone seems to be seeing but it was a very good match. ***1/2

Open the Twin Gate Championship Match: Team Dragon Gate (Kota Minoura & Jason Lee) (c) vs. Team Toryumon (Susumu Yokosuka & Genki Horiguchi)
This was supposed to be a rematch from the Dangerous Gate show but in comes Genki instead. While Dragon Kid is the better singles wrestler and more accomplished, Genki has excelled in a tag role far more than Dragon kid so it’s not a downgrade by any means. He and Susumu are the perfect partners with tons of experience which helped them dominate a lot of the match with their well oiled tag team work. Minoura and Lee quickly regained some ground and were able to beat Team Toryumon with their slick wrestling. Their tried and true formula of Minoru selling and Jason Lee making the hot tag proves successful once again. ****

Open the Dream Gate Championship Match: Eita (c) vs. Kzy
I thought this was an awesome Dream Gate title match. The perfect clash of morals and ideals. Cheating heel vs the never-say-die face. Kzy wasn’t going to win this. Not in the same month as a Kobe World show but I think that added to his performance. Because you could feel his passion and drive to win. He really wanted to win and went all out. And despite the futility of the situation, you can’t help but root for Kzy. Eita using R.E.D to supper Kzy’s moment and cheat his way to victory was frustrating. Eita held his own using smart counter moves as well as interference. Eita’s biggest moves did feel like game changers in the match like his spinning GTS. Exactly what I wanted from this match. Great match. Great effort by Kzy too after a less than great one against Doi earlier in the year. ****
