NJPW Wrestling Dontaku In Fukuoka Dome

Unfortunately for us all, a lot of wrestling channels have been shut down so a lot of the matches that were previously available are no longer with us (R.I.P) so some of the shows are a little less full now. So no Chono vs Fujiwara I’m afraid. Fujiwara vs Hashimoto that happens in the BOSJ tour is a goner too. Sad times.

Hiroshi Hase vs. Riki Choshu
Choshu! Choshu! Choshu! This is a cool and compact match between student and teacher. They are very rough with each other, kicking it off with a hot exchange in the corner where Choshu almost headbutted Hase. They keep up that intensity for the remainder of the match, nailing each other with hard strikes and tight submission holds. The finish was amazing with Hase trying to finish Choshu off with a few lariats only to have his head taken off by a Riki Lariat and then finished with the Scorpion. Great match. ***3/4

IWGP Heavyweight Title Match: Tatsumi Fujinami (c) vs. Shinya Hashimoto
This was a super follow-up from their match in April. Hashimoto is possessed and is looking to destroy Fujinami again, but this time, he wants to get the job done. Fujinami actually gets more offence than he did in the title win and at a point, almost won it with an STF but Hashimoto rallied with his brutal and deliberate head kicks that finished Fujinami off and restored Hashimoto’s honor. Short and sweet. ***1/4.

Great Muta vs. Antonio Inoki
I’ll say this about Great Muta matches; they feel like big matches. Inoki being in the ring and selling for him helps a ton. However I didn’t think much of this overall. Muta tries to do the same swinging rope spot that he did to Hogan but fails. It’s all the same schtick that I dislike about Muta. Occasionally he gets violent and bloody Inoki up and that’s cool. But there wasn’t enough for me. The dim lights were a cool visual at least and added to the spectacle. Inoki does his kicks and submissions and sells for Muta to create a decnet finishing stretch before winning. Uneven match but it has its moments. **1/2
