NJPW G1 Climax 1994 - Day 3 05/08/1994

G1 Climax 1994 Block B Match: Hiroshi Hase vs. Shiro Koshinaka
Cute match. There is a lot of submission work that's cool, but not really purposeful to the match story but it was still very engaging and made for a very entertaining match before the crux of the action reached its climax. Koshinaka’s hip attacks work really well with Hase’s offence who could turn practically anything into a uranage. The closing stretch was white hot with nearfalls and drama that even flowed. Hase doing a uranage off the second rope and on the floor probably should've been saved for a bigger match but that kind of escalation helped the match a lot. ****1/4

G1 Climax 1994 Block B Match: Power Warrior vs. Shinya Hashimoto
Sorta longer than you'd like (their Dome match is a perfect 19 minutes) but the booking made Power Warrior look great. Going 30 minutes with the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion is a big deal and allows Warrior to come across on that level. This was pretty highly physical with Hashimoto seemingly bleeding from the mouth within 5 minutes and would have a bloody nose by the end. Hashimoto's offence alone can make a match feel like a fight but Power Warrior had some violent offences like his lariats. The Stranglehold submission holds were really boring and lacked the drama of a STF or a Scorpion Hold. That prevented this match from being a MOTYC. ***3/4

G1 Climax 1994 Block A Match: Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Yoshiaki Fujiwara
Such a cool match. Very simple, yet they lay in what they do to make it stand out so much. Fujiwara was focused on punishing Yatsu with hard headbutts and Yatsu laid in the stomps. ***

G1 Climax 1994 Block A Match: Keiji Muto vs. Riki Choshu
This got a pillow reaction. And while I don't consider it on that level myself, I did think that this was a pretty great match. They wrestled with a lot of focus and intensity for the 15 minutes which isn't always the case for Muto. However Muto pulled his weight in bumping for Choshu and added some flashy to the no nonsense style of Choshu. ***1/2
