Bruiser Brody vs Jumbo Tsuruta - AJPW 31/08/1983

NWA International Heavyweight Title Match: Bruiser Brody (c) vs. Jumbo Tsuruta - AJPW Super Power Series 1983 - Day 11 31/08/1983
This was a long twenty minutes. Not a terrible twenty though because there were some aspects of the match that I liked. When the match was active and the wrestling had some purpose to it, the match was very frantic and unpredictable. The high spots of the match were glorious - Brody scaring the piss out of the fans was great, as was his big moves, Jumbo himself was terrific, particularly when Brody cut him up. All that was good but there was a little too much of Brody’s reputation on display. The bollocks finish with Jumbo just winning by count out when this is a crowning moment in his career at this stage of his career, the static, dull mat wrestling stages which came off as totally aimless and Brody constantly brushing off offence. In the early parts of the match, Jumbo was working towards hitting a gut-wrench suplex and when he finally hit it, Brody kicked out at one and looked to get back on his feet right away. Jumbo had to stop Brody from doing so with a front face lock. Ridiculous. So we are left with a match with uneven pacing, inconsistent selling and a head scratching finish. **3/4
