NJPW 5th Madison Square Garden Series - Day 28 - 01/04/1982

Riki Choshu & Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Texas Outlaws (Dick Murdoch & Dusty Rhodes)
Short, simple. It’s weird seeing Choshu as the obvious weak link, being punked around by the Outlaws. **1/2

WWF Junior Heavyweight Title Match: Tiger Mask (c) vs. Steve Wright
I remember William Regal telling a short story about this match; how Wright totally steamrolled over Tiger Mask, leaving him very little while shining on his own. And that's exactly what this was. Wright schooled Tiger Mask is almost every regard - fluidity in movement, submissions, strikes, everything. Tiger Mask is more than skilled in grappling to still look somewhat strong but Wright still ripped him apart with snug submission holds. Awesome little match. ***1/2

MSG Series 1982 Final Match: Andre The Giant vs. Killer Khan
Tremendous match. Andre’s selling and intelligence was on full display and Khan was able to channel that into his own performance, making him one of the biggest faces of the night, having the Kokugikan crowd hanging on to his every move. Khan won't give up, no matter what. A lot of wrestlers would've been resigned to their fate after Andre ignored their opening offence but not Khan. He is initially baffled, but soon rallies back and attacks Andre’s leg to create a crucial opening. Andre has no real defence of Khan’s leg based attacks except to power through the pain. Even when Andre regains offence, he is always in clear agony, looking for Arnold Skaaland for guidance and support. One of the great Andre matches, for sure. ****1/2
