NJPW Super Grade Tag League IV 1994

It's been a while. It should finish 94 New Japan soon enough.

NJPW Super Grade Jr. Heavyweight Tag League Match: Dean Malenko & Tokimitsu Ishizawa vs Shoichi Funaki & Yuki Ishikawa - NJPW Super Grade Tag League IV - Day 1 - 09/10/1994
This was super cool. Malenko had some sick dropkicks to the thighs and generally matched up with the PWFG crew well, Sho Funaki in particular. Even the future Kendo Kashin looked awesome. Ishikawa looked great. He had some wicked stomps. What a talent he was before he put on a mask. ***

NJPW Super Grade Jr. Heavyweight Tag League Match: Gran Hamada & Norio Honaga vs Super Delfin & TAKA Michinoku - NJPW Super Grade Tag League IV - Day 1 - 09/10/1994
A good clash of styles. Hamada and Honaga are more grounded than Delfin and Taka in their junior styles but they aren't incapable of flying themselves so there were a lot of things they could do here. My favourite spot of the match is Delfin missing a plancha only to get nailed by one of Hamada’s. ***

NJPW Super Grade Jr. Heavyweight Tag League Match: Black Tiger & The Great Sasuke vs Shinjiro Otani & Wild Pegasus - NJPW Super Grade Tag League IV - Day 1 - 09/10/1994
Somewhat disappointing in parts but there was a lot to like. For one, I love the Otani/Pegasus pairing. The dropkick/dragon suplex combination was super sweat. Otani and Pegasus worked over Black Tiger and Sasuke with their aggressive styles, with both opponents taking their fair share of offence. Sasuke seemed down and out until he was able to make a quick comeback along with Black Tiger to score the win. ***1/2

NJPW Super Grade Jr. Heavyweight Tag League Final Match: Black Tiger & The Great Sasuke vs Shinjiro Otani & Wild Pegasus - NJPW Super Grade Tag League IV - Day 9 - 18/10/1994
Black Tiger (Eddie Guerrero) had his heel boots on in this match. Just minutes into the match, he's blasting Otani with vile chair shots. He also several times cheated his way through a match, eye poking Pegasus while had a crab locked on. Past that, there are some great spots and risk-taking. Sasuke takes a nasty bump to the floor towards the end. The end looked like it was messed up though. The match had a lot to like though. Perhaps not a classic like it’s hyped to be. ***1/2
