ZSJ vs KENTA & Kota Ibushi vs. Great-O-Khan - G1 Climax 2021

NJPW G1 Climax 2021 - Day 13 - 09/10/2021
G1 Climax 2021 Block A Match: KENTA vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
This was terrific. Obviously Zack throwing the slaps was great but the submission work particularly great in how it meshed with KENTA and how he wrestled. KENTA tends to bully his opponents but when he's against Ishii or Shingo, he can't fully embrace it unlike here, where he could with Zack's smaller size. ZSJ’s work on the knees was great and gave him a good equalizer against KENTA. ***3/4

G1 Climax 2021 Block A Match: Kota Ibushi vs. Great-O-Khan
I watched this twice, because anything similar to shoot-style in a modern context tends to get overblown (myself included) and the 2nd time put things into perspective. This was really well done ultimately. It wasn't always true to what people consider it (RINGS or UWFI) but rather Original UWF, where the style is mixed and isn't fully developed. There was tons of stand-up with not much happening, although it was interesting to see the mental thinking behind it with some good submissions and mat-work breaking it all up. O-Khan legit skill level truly came out, more so than it usually does under this setting. I’d like to see New Japan go this route more with the current crowd situation. They don’t have to worry about the crowd giving it silence, because you know… The closing stretch was  little on par with the usual formula but I still thought it was well executed. ***3/4
