This had a cracking start with Plum Mariko attacking before the bell and bloodying Nayago in the crowd all within a few minutes. Nagayo fights her way back to the ring and gains control with some kicks (some good, some not-so good) and begins the submission work, which Plum was game for. She then does some heelish taunting to the pro-Nagayo crowd and bites Nagayo’s cut before applying the Plum Stretch. Punt kicks from Nagayo are effective and she tries for the Scorpion Hold, which is completed. More punt kicks come when Plum escapes but Nagayo stomps on her face and applies an ankle hold that turns into an STF. As both have their portion of the fans in the crowd, this allows them to play with the heel/face dynamics a little. Blending it and exchanging the role depending on the moment, thus making this a little more interesting than a typical face/heel match with clear divides. Nagayo begins using a chair and even grabs a mic to aggravate the situation. Then comes a well worked restart (a rarity) where they apply a knucklock but Nagayo wins out with low kicks. Plum reverses Nagayo to apply a chicken wing and Nagayo’s neck becomes a target. Nagayo waits on the outside, using her smarts, and eggs the crowd on by milking it before engaging. Plum applies a Plum Stretch whilst standing but Nagayo refuses to go down, leading to a bridging German suplex. Nagayo initially counters a running senton with a powerbomb but she can’t follow up quickly enough before being reversed into an omoplata. The kicks remain to be a great offensive move for Nagayo as Plum continues on being rocked by when, enough that the ref has to start a count. Plum manages to score an STF out of nowhere and tries a banana split knee bar before the ropes break it. Dropkicks to the hips and back to the knee bar she went. Nagayo counters a top rope move with a crunching kick to the stomach and looks for the win via a rear naked choke that succeeds. Great match in my book, containing a great range of submission wrestling mixed with brawling and strikes when appropriate plus class character work by both. ****
