Antonio Inoki vs Yoshiaki Fujiwara - NJPW 12/06/1986

I've kind of been neglecting this lately. Not really watched much wrestling, work, uni, all those reaons. But nothing has really inspired me to write about, until today...

IWGP League 1986 Block A Match: Antonio Inoki vs Yoshiaki Fujiwara - NJPW IWGP Champion Series 1986 - Day 25 - 12/06/1986
Not the classic like Maeda vs Fujinami is but it’s a masterful piece of work with the two putting on a right clinic. Not as varied as their match earlier in the year but it was just as compelling if not more. Fujiwara was a rabid dog, persistently fighting for the sleeper hold and Inoki had to keep defending it at all costs. Inoki offered a terrific defensive performance with a lot of his high spots consisting of reversals and counters, only for Fujiwara to flip him on his backside and snag the neck once again. The match turned around when Inoki threw Fujiwara and himself over the top rope where Fujiwara ended up with a bloody face, landing hard on the floor face first presumably. But still Fujiwara went for the sleeper. What a mad man. But nonetheless, it allowed a real target for Inoki to exploit and Inoki made good use of it with his punches. The peak of the match was Inoki hitting an Enziguri, his ultimate comeback move, and Fujiwara not selling it and dodging the next one as well. Fujiwara is such a beast, how do people not love this man? The finish came off rather well with Inoki hitting one german suplex, taking his only real shot at scoring a pin and succeeding by the skin of his teeth. A terrific performance by both wrestlers. ****1/4
