Templario vs. Mascara Dorada - CMLL Super Viernes 2024 - 05/01/2024
Shockingly terrible first fall by these guys. I’ve seen one Dorada II match but Templario usually delivers so this having a rough start was unusual. It was sloppy, there was too much hesitation to do stuff, Dorada kept slipping and the counters were poorly executed so you can’t even say how amazing the moves were. Templario wins to thankfully end it. The second fall was much stronger as a match. There were some cool dives on the floor, a few more well executed sequences, etc. Not great but a better short fall to set up the real meat of the match. Dorada evens it up with an awesome spinning slam. The third fall is pretty damn awesome though. It builds really well into a great series of kick outs and false finishes. The crowd really gets hooked in this part of the bout. But they failed to really take off until they were a 3rd of the way there. Shame. Good bout in the end. ***1/2
CMLL World Tag Team Title #1 Contendership Tournament Final Match: Los Divinos Laguneros (Blue Panther Jr. & Dark Panther) vs. El Triangulo (El Hijo del Villano III & Villano III Jr.) - CMLL Martes De Arena Mexico 2024 - 09/01/2024
The start was pretty awesome with Villanitos coming in attacking Blue Panther Jr and controlling the early part of the as Blue Panther Jr refuses to give up and lose. Dark Panther inexplicably remains on the outside cheering his brother on instead of helping. Oh lucha. The crowd gets really into this match and BPJr specifically with his cool submission moves and great reliance on his part.. Dark Panther had his fair share of great moves, including some brutal topes to the outside and some great crowd control. Hijo and Blue Panther Jr are left in the ring, exchange chops before a blue thunder bomb is hit for a nearfall. The finish was very good too with the Panthers seemingly the favourites to win before The Villanitos were able to hit stereo moonsaults for a double false finish and then followed up with stereo sentons to win the match. ***1/2
Soberano Jr. vs. Templario - CMLL Super Viernes 2024 - 12/01/2024
Soberano Jr becoming a hot throb was not what I expected. Not since the likes of Jeff Hardy has the women in the crowd screamed for a man taking off his shirt/jacket like they did for Soberano Jr. The men still hate him and he played into that wonderfully. It all came to a head once Templario took advantage of Soberano Jr’s lackadaisical and unfocused state to win the first fall. Soberano Jr started much stronger in the second fall, ripping the mask, slapping Tempario’s arm in the barricade door and, most importantly, taking off his jacket finally. Soberano hit some sweet moves in the match as well as showed some terrific character work. His no hands moonsault to the floor is always beautiful and he is stiff with the drop kicks, although he does love an obvious thigh slap here and there. But he really captured both sides of the wrestling circle in the match. Templario is a wonderful dance partner and does everything he’s asked to do really well. The finish came when Soberano Jr once again got distracted by KeMalito and it cost him again. This was awesome. Mostly due to Soberano Jr than a combining effort like their previous matches but Templario didn’t put much foot wrong either. ***3/4
