Blue Panther vs. Hechicero - 10/01/2025

Good exchange to open up - the roman knuckle into a wrist lock from Blue Panther into an arrow stretch was chained together very well. They continue the exchange of holds with Hechicero applying multiple toe holds. Blue Panther shows off some of his class, rolling back the eyes with an impressive escape out of a head scissors, flipping back and forth to a wow’d crowd. Hechicero remains in control, however, tying Panther’s arms together, which allows him to hit a spinning backbreaker and submit him with a double shoulder lock for the end of a strong first fall. Panther rallies back with a spurt of energy, charging at Hechicero and hits a running cannonball off the apron to wipe Hechicero out. Awesome spot. The fans get behind the legendary luchador as he chops Hechicero in the corner, taking his time to work the crowd and milk the drama. Hechicero plays catch up as Panther needles him into a Regal stretch for the fall. Short and predictable but super fun second fall. The third fall escalated nicely. Hechicero’s heel work gets more pronounced and the crowd’s energy raises for Panther, who works them nicely. There was a big error in the match where Blue Panther, unfortunately hit the top ropes after attempting a tope. Such a shame. Kind of scary too. Hechicero does recover the spot by going on the offensive and posting Panther. Panther trips Hechicero on the apron and then hits a big diving plancha. They return to the ring and ease into the final act of the match. Hechicero catches Panther after a plancha attempt and slams him to the hard canvas, getting a two count after several elbow attempts which he can’t believe. Hechicero continues to shit talk the fans which is awesome, and it makes it better when he does it only to miss a move immediately after. It’s just genius comedy wrestling, almost. Panther and Hechicero take it to the entrance way where Hechicero slams Panther’s head into the steps which is rather violent for the modern CMLL style. Panther makes him pay by jumping off the steps with a plancha in an incredible spot. They return to the ring again, where Hechicero’s rudo work peaks when he kicks KeMonito off the apron. This is followed up with another big rudo spot - Hechicero takes off Panther’s mask, allowing him the chance to pin him with a flash pin to win the match. Super fun third fall. The match was well done. It gave a lot of shine to Blue Panther, allowing him to work as an uber babyface, giving him the big high spots of the match and allowing him to shine throughout. Hechicero lead the opening fall with his good technical work, but otherwise was more subdued. Still remains strong but offered more good rudo character work to compliment the legend, rather than take the spotlight for himself. It was a really strongly executed match from start to finish. Good storytelling, good wrestling, good drama. Not a MOTYC, but with a few more developed technical exchanges early on, who knows. ***3/4
